NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- When New Hartford High School students go back to class next month, it'll be without their cellphones. "Students have to come to school in the morning, but their cell phones in their lockers. If they leave for lunch, because we have an open campus, they can take their phones with them. But when they come back from lunch, back in the locker til the end of the instructional day," Superintendent Dr. Cosimo Tangorra said.

Herkimer College Looking for 'Makers of the Mohawk Valley' for Upcoming Exhibit
HERKIMER, N.Y. -- Herkimer College will soon showcase a gallery featuring makers in the Mohawk Valley. The show, which is titled Makers of the Mohawk Valley, begins on Aug. 30 and will feature art and other finely crafted objects produced by individuals aged 18 and older who live or work in the Mohawk Valley.

Suzanne Snyder named dean of Pratt Munson College of Art and Design. Utica, N.Y. — After a five-month national search, Suzanne Snyder has been named dean of Pratt Munson College of Art and Design, Munson’s 24-year affiliation with Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. Snyder will provide executive leadership for Pratt Munson, an extension campus of Pratt Institute that provides first- and second-year instruction in fine arts, communications design, photography, and art and design education for the culmination of a BFA at Pratt. Snyder will also lead Munson’s Community Arts program, which has offered non-credit art instruction to children, teens, and adults since 1941.

The COVID-19 pandemic saw a significant change among the norms of schools when it comes to keeping their absentee rates low, and for parents who struggle when it comes to finding a reason to keep their children home.
Mt. Markham Students Help Environment
This spring Mount Markham High School students stepped out of the classroom to improve the local environment. Earth Day was observed as Mrs. Raymond, Mrs. Martin and 18 students from Intro to Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources, and Environmental Science classes along with the Envirothon team worked with Oneida County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Town of Bridgewater in a stream cleanup.
