(WWJ) A Metro Detroit man faces up to life in prison convicted of what prosecutors call a senseless killing.

The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office says a 12-person jury found Malcolm Otis Draper, Jr. of Pontiac guilty on several charges, including second degree murder and felony firearm, in connection with a shooting back in December 2023 .

According to investigators, then then-24-year-old Draper shot and killed Anthony Russell Holcomb — a 47-year-old artist from Auburn Hills — who was doing some work for him.

Prosecutors said Draper went to the victim’s apartment and the two got into an argument about paint supplies, which turned physical. While on top of the victim, Draper shot Holcomb in the neck, took the paint supplies, and left the scene.

Draper then called 911 to report the shooting , according to police.

The jury deliberated for a day and-a-half after a three-day trial, before returning with their verdict.

"This was a senseless killing over a petty dispute,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, in a statement. “While this verdict does not bring back the life of the victim, I hope that it brings some peace to the victim’s family and loved ones.”

Draper is scheduled to be sentenced on September 4. He remains held in the Oakland County Jail until his sentencing.
