Outdoor Beacon 7-4-24
Before we start the fishing report this week, we have some sad news to bring you. In my opinion, we have lost an icon in this industry. Dave Demeter, Sr. passed away this past Tuesday. He was a great friend and teacher to myself and many others. I have been guiding for 40 years for a living, and I got my start with Dave as a first mate on his boat. He has taught me so many things over the years and has helped me grow as a captain. In his heyday, he was known to many people as Double. He knew this lake like the back of his hand. He was a topnotch guide, a friend to many, and a wealth of knowledge for anyone that had questions. He will be missed.
Herb’s Bait and Tackle mingles history and modern convenience
When Herb’s Bait and Tackle reopened early this year, it was still in the transitional stage that allowed it to serve its customers without the wow factor the new owners were planning. Now that renovations are complete, customers walking into Herb’s may feel like they are reliving their first viewing of “The Wizard of Oz” when the movie unexpectedly transitions from black and white to full color.

Of the 50-plus cars that rolled into The ‘Que’s parking lot on June 22 for the annual Cruise In, nine-year-old Tucker Noesen of Fremont liked the orange Corvette the best. Tucker’s family are huge NASCAR fans, and they especially like Hendrick Motorsports’s Chevy racecars. “The orange...

In 2022, musician and songwriter Ron Miller asked videographer Shay Rickard to collaborate on a distinctive promotional project for Port Clinton. The result, a video called, “Port Clinton’s Calling Me,” brought Port Clinton to the world stage. Now, the pair have teamed up for their most recent video, “Another Marblehead Morning,” which highlights the slow lake life unique to Marblehead, from its distinctive businesses and restaurants, local parks and scenery, and, of course, the Marblehead Lighthouse.

Firelands Symphony Orchestra “pops” into the PCHS Performing Arts Center
Pops on the Peninsula turned into Pops in Port Clinton on June 29 when expected inclement weather forced the Firelands Symphony Orchestra (FSO) to move their performance from the Marblehead Lighthouse to the Port Clinton High School Performing Arts Center. The decision was made the day before, when stormy weather was forecast for Saturday. By the time the concert started, the storms had long been replaced by sunny skies.
