CECIL COUNTY — A trip into the Royal Farms in Port Deposit resulted in a Cecil County man bringing home one of the Maryland Lottery’s top scratch-off prizes.

The man, who according to lottery officials chose to remain anonymous, said that he randomly selected a Bingo X10 ticket at the store after it caught his eye. After scanning the ticket at the store, he was surprised to learn that he would have to head to the lottery’s headquarters to claim his prize.

“We knew he had won something, but we just didn’t know how much,” the lucky winner’s wife told lottery officials.

“We thought it was a couple thousand,” the man recalled.

After scanning the ticket, the couple were shocked to see that he had won the six-figure prize.

“I couldn’t believe it,” the man said. “I was very happy to win.”

A maintenance worker by trade, the man said that he plans to use the prize to pay off his mortgage and fix up his wife’s car. According to the couple, this isn’t the first big lottery prize they’ve claimed, as the wife claimed another big scratch-off prize a few years back.

The Royal Farms store where the ticket was purchased, located at 1336 Jacob Tome Memorial Highway in Cecil County, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the lottery for selling the ticket.

According to the lottery, there are three $100,000 Bingo X10 prizes left to be claimed, as well as 12 unclaimed $10,000 prizes.
