PORTERVILLE, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – One man is dead following a crash involving an SUV and a big rig trailer outside Porterville on Monday, in the area of Highway 190 and Road 208, according to CHP officials.

Officers say their investigation indicates an unidentified 49-year-old man driving a 2013 GMC Terrain south on Road 208 approached Highway 190. At the same time, officials say another man was driving westbound on Highway 190 approaching Road 208 in a semi-truck towing two flatbed trailers.

Officials say the unidentified driver did not stop for the posted stop sign on Road 208 and the front of the GMC struck the right side of the flatbeds being towed. CHP says the rear flatbed overturned and ended up partially blocking the westbound lane of Highway 190 while the GMC came to a rest on the north shoulder of Highway 190.

According to officials, all parties were using seat belts but the unidentified driver was pronounced dead on the scene. The two passengers were transported to Kaweah Health Medical Center, one for major injuries, one for minor injuries.

The big rig driver did not claim and injuries. Officials say it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
