A Portland man accused of shooting another man last summer in Naples last year will serve five years in prison.

Alexzander Goodwin, 19, pleaded guilty to elevated aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and trafficking in scheduled drugs.

He was sentenced on Monday to 18 years in prison with all but five years suspended on the assault charge and a consecutive sentence of five years, all suspended, for the drug trafficking charge, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened at about 7:05 p.m. on July 4, 2023, as people were gathering on the Naples Causeway to view the Independence Day fireworks, which were subsequently canceled.

An unidentified boy was hospitalized with injuries that police said were not life-threatening.

Goodwin was arrested two days later and is currently being held at Cumberland County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.
