Greetings! Welcome to another Friday and to another dispatch from your Coast Star Connection. With Labor Day Weekend now in our rearview mirrors, as well as summer as we tend to think of it, the busy season of school and other serious endeavors returns. Hope it's all off to a great start for you.
Let's jump right in to this week's quartet of stories . . .
Local teacher opens book shop in Dock Square
Emma Wilson walks over to one of the shelves at Lupine Books , the new shop she has opened in Dock Square in Kennebunkport, and plucks a popular children’s story from among the titles.
It’s a copy of “Miss Rumphius,” the classic story written by Maine author Barbara Cooney, about a woman who plants lupines to help make the world a more beautiful place. Indeed, right there on the cover, you can see the floral namesake of Wilson’s brand-new business.
No Tricks, Just Traffic
When trick-or-treaters go door-to-door on Summer Street in Kennebunk this Halloween , they’re going to need to look both ways before crossing the road. The town recently announced that the street, a popular destination for candy-seeking kids every Oct. 31, will not be closed to vehicular traffic as it has been over the years.
A New HR Director for RSU 21
Dawn Therrien, a former School Board member, is the new human resources director for RSU 21. The School Board approved Therrien for the position during a special meeting on Friday, Aug. 30. She had her first day on the job on Tuesday.
From Medical to Recreational?
Should local medical marijuana dispensaries be allowed to become adult-use cannabis stores instead? Members of the Wells Planning Board are grappling with that question as they work through an application from the owner of a locally approved medical dispensary who wants the option of focusing on selling recreational cannabis instead.
