KITTERY, Maine — The Kittery Premium Outlets shopping plaza will soon undergo renovations in a multi-million-dollar project expected to last into early 2025, though none of its stores on Route 1 will close during the process.

Simon Premium Outlets, the international retail real estate and owner of the Kittery Premium Outlets, is touting the largely cosmetic set of improvements coming to the town’s mall road shops starting in September.

Music systems will be upgraded around the property and rebranded pylon signage will be installed at each store’s front entrance. The Kittery Premium Outlets 4 building, where the Nike Factory Store and American Eagle Outfitters are located, will see its restrooms renovated alongside new trash cans, refurbished benches and landscaping work.

Next year, the Outlets 4 building will be rehabilitated with new siding, storefronts, fresh paint, and resurfacing of the center columns, according to Simon Premium Outlets.

“Kittery Premium Outlets is proud to announce our upcoming remodel,” said Carolyn Edwards, area general manager of the stores. “This project underscores our commitment to enhancing the shopping experience.”

The slate of upgrades comes amid the property’s addition of seven new retailers this summer - Claire’s, Carter’s, Osh Kosh B’Gosh, Mélange Home, Perfume Palace, Limited Hype and Jack’s Country Store - and its plan to add a Vineyard Vines store in 2025, according to a Simon Premium Outlets spokesperson.

Simon Premium Outlets declined to specify the anticipated cost of the whole project but billed the renovations as being in the multi-million-dollar range.

“We continue to see an investment into brick-and-mortar retail offerings while we invest in our property," Edwards said in a prepared statement. "Offering more brands with attractive price points along with an elevated customer experience, will drive new visitors to the center to enjoy our unique mix of retail brands and updated amenities.”

The immediate improvements are expected to be wrapped up by the first quarter of 2025, Edwards noted.

The Kittery Premium Outlets have 50 tenants across multiple buildings along U.S. Route 1.Simon Premium Outlets owns 195 shopping properties in the United States, including the Kittery Premium Outlets, in addition to 42 retail holdings located in Puerto Rico, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea and Thailand.
