Locals compete in Battle for Atascosa County Tournament
The inaugural Battle for Atascosa County Alumni Tournament was held June 28 and 29 at the Pleasanton Athletics Complex. Graduates from Pleasanton, Jourdanton, Poteet and Charlotte High School were all invited to participate in the tournament. There were six teams in the men’s bracket and three in the women’s.
Poteet city honors councilmember Flores
The Poteet community was left reeling with the recent loss of Rick Flores, Sr. who served on the city council for many years. All that knew him, or knew of him, would quickly say that he was a good man, a godly man, a man of the people whose serene demeanor often spread to those around him. He was the calming, practical and reasonable voice during disagreements among the council members. He was a gentle man whose compassion shone brightly to all.
San Ysidro Clean Up Day set
The next Clean Up Day at San Ysidro Cemetery in Pleasanton is scheduled for July 13 at 8 a.m. Members, please bring mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, gloves, rakes and wheelbarrows to assist with the clean up. If your family gravesites have curbed-in plots, please come and remove old flowers and clean within the area.
City park adds local art flare with Art Connects wall
Pleasanton’s Pre-Fourth of July Bash on June 28, not only marked a celebration of freedom, but also the city’s new Art Connect Wall at the Pleasanton River Park. Dozens were in attendance for the ribbon cutting ceremony including city staff, council and residents in the community plus the local artists. Newly elected Mayor JR Gallegos made the opening greetings for the commemoration.
MHA COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
The executive team at Methodist Hospital | Atascosa held a Community Advisory Board meeting last Thursday at the hospital with community officials and other public leaders within the area. They met to share community updates on what is going on at the hospital and receive input and feedback from the community leaders. Their goal is to continue strengthening the relationship between the hospital and the community, providing a platform for community members to share their perspectives on the hospital’s services and identifying areas of improvement for community health initiatives. Plans are underway for another one later this year.
