It's mid-August, and you know what that means, the last-open lift-served ski area in North America is preparing to wrap up for the Winter '23/'24 season.

Timberline Lodge , Oregon has announced on their website that Sunday, August 18th, 2024 will be the last of skiing and snowboarding, until next season, of course.

Timberline is able to remain open throughout the summer thanks to deep snowfall, snow farming techniques, high elevation, and most-importantly, the Palmer Chairlift. The lift stretches from 7,000 ft. to 8,500 ft. on iconic Mt. Hood, and is a bastion for summer skiing aficionados.

Palmer can only be operated during the spring and summer due to harsh and exposed conditions during the winter, but Timberline has been spinning the lift since March 18th, 2024. Following Sunday's closing, Palmer will have operated for 153 days this season, longer than many ski area's entire winter season.

According to Timberline Lodge's website, the ski area has recorded a whopping 611 inches of snowfall since September 1st, 2023. Sure, there was plenty of rain like any fruitful season in the Pacific Northwest, but Timberline was able to remain open for daily skiing and snowboarding from Saturday, December 2nd, 2023 through Sunday, August 18th, 2024.

Considering Timberline's commitment to summer skiing, their 260 days of operations for the Winter '23/'24 season isn't surprising per se, but it's worth celebrating nonetheless.

I had been dreaming of sinking my edges into the summer snow of Timberline Lodge for as long as I can remember. In July of this year, I finally made it happen thanks to our friends at 5-Hour Energy.

It was special to be part of the summer skiing scene at Timberline, if even only for a day. I wish I could have stayed to ski Timberline for an entire week, but this job isn't that sweet. Instead, we captured my Ultimate Summer Trifecta in which I nailed three sports in one day: skiing, mountain biking, and paddle boarding. Check it out below:

If you need a sign to go to Timberline Lodge next summer, let this be it. Whether you want to ski, bike, hike, relax, or whatever, Mt. Hood provides. This phrase might be cliche, but it legitimately felt like an outdoorsy adult's Disney World.

Enjoy the rest of summer, but know that Timberline Lodge closing for the season only means one thing- Winter. Is. Coming. Are you ready?
