    SOFTBALL SEASON BEGINS

    High school girls softball is underway and Phillips finds itself in a 2-0 tie with Athens for an early lead in the Marawood North Conference.

    After a first game postponement, the Loggers won 13-3 at Prentice on April 9, and then defeated the Buccaneers 22-3 at home on April 12. The Loggers played their next two against Chequamegon, April 13 in Park Falls and April 16 at home, before heading to Newman Catholic (1-1) on April 19.

    Athens started the season with the Danny Mac Softball Classic Hodag Dome in Rhinelander on March 22-23. The Blue Jays lost 11-6 to Wautoma, defeated Rhinelander 16-3, and lost 12-6 to Waupaca.

    Athens came back home to defeat Spencer 17-2 on April 1. The Blue Jays defeated Newman Catholic 6-0 in Wausau on April 8, then won 8-6 at Rib Lake on April 9, and beat Rib Lake at home 11-10 on April 12.

    Chequamegon has yet to play a conference game but are 3-0 overall. The Eagles won two games at Ladysmith on April 5, winning 16-7 in game one and 13-2 in the second. Chequamegon then won 8-2 at Northwood/Solon Springs on April 12.

    After the two Phillips games, Chequamegon head to Auburndale (1-1) on April 19, host Flambeau for a double-header on April 22.

    Prentice is off to a rough start at 0-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Buccaneers lost 15-0 to Shiocton in the Danny Mac Classic on March 23, then lost 12-5 at Flambeau on March 23. The team had a 0-0 at Spencer on March 24, before the two losses to Phillips.

    Prentice plays at Rib Lake on April 15, and hosts the team on April 16. The Buccaneers head to Marathon (2-0) on April 19, and host Edgar (0-2) on April 22.
