The annual Phillips Lions Club Spirit of America 5K Fun Run/Walk will take place on Saturday July 6. The event is part of the Phillips Fourth of July weekend festivities.
This is the fourth year that the Lions Club has organized the event, taking over from the Women’s Health Alliance of Price County that ran the race for the previous 17 years.
Same day registration will run from 6 to 8 a.m. at the Phillips VFW Post 5778 located at 306 S. Lake Ave. The race will start at 8:30 a.m., just a half-block away at the intersection of Walnut Street and South Avon Avenue.
Participants who pre-register can pick up their packets at the VFW prior to the race. The race pre-registration is $20 and will be $30 the day of the race. T-Shirts are guaranteed with registrations prior to June 15. Pre-registrater online at Race Roster (raceroster.com).
Members of the Phillips High School girls cross country team, who placed second at state last fall, will be the honorary starters for the race. Members of the team will also lead a free under 10-year-old race during the event.
The Spirit of America 5K Fun Run/Walk is a major fundraiser for the Phillips Lions to support multiple community projects. In recent years the club has made significant contributions to the Elk Lake Park playground project, the School Forest Learning Center, the Phillips Fire Department UTV rescue vehicle purchase, upgrades to the Phillips School District auditorium, construction of the Louis A. Koenig Research Center of the Price County Historical Society, and awards three $1,000 scholarships annually to Phillips High School seniors.
