Salem Man Sentenced to Over Five Years for Role in North Shore Drug Trafficking Operation
A Salem man has received a 70-month prison sentence for his contribution to a drug trafficking operation that saw tens of thousands of counterfeit prescription pills, laced with dangerous substances such as fentanyl and methamphetamine, distributed on the North Shore. Kion Shepherd, a 25-year-old from Salem, was handed down this sentence by Chief U.S. District Court Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV, as announced today by the U.S. Attorney's Office. He was also assigned three years of supervised release following his prison term.

Two teens arrested, charged with robbing 9-year-old boy at gunpoint in Boston
Two teens have been arrested for allegedly robbing a 9-year-old boy of his cellphone at gunpoint in Boston Thursday, police say. The young boy was at Children’s Park at the corner of Intervale and Fernboro Street waiting for a cookout around 6:30 p.m. when two 15-year-olds approached him and took his cell phone at gunpoint, Essex County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. The two 15-year-old teens were charged with armed robbery and threat to commit a crime in West Roxbury Juvenile Court on Friday. “Being robbed at gunpoint is a terrifying experience for anyone. But the age of the victim here, and the ages of the charged juveniles, adds an extra layer of shock and heartbreak. I commend this young boy and the adults present for providing the information that led to the arrest,” Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.
4 men in alleged Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut retail theft ring arrested after robbery of 80-year-old
Four men were arrested for an Organized Retail Theft following an investigation by Hingham and Weymouth Police on Friday in a Hingham shopping center parking lot. According to Hingham Police, on July 19th, Hingham Detectives were contacted by Weymouth Police Detectives who had observed suspicious activity by the four men inside an SUV at a shopping center in Weymouth and followed the SUV into the Derby Street Shops in Hingham. Detectives continued to observe the suspicious activity of the men as they walked in and out of the Apple Store.

At around 4:25 p.m. on Thursday, a group of teens (including five boys and one girl) stole food from CVS. The caller said they were now standing in front of the old Santander building eating. An employee told police they could not do anything about it and needed police to intervene. Police caught up with the kids a short while later.
Man dies after stepping onto Red Line tracks at South Station
One person died in the incident, MBTA says. The Red Line experienced severe delays Wednesday night after an apparent suicide at South Station. Around 6 p.m., the MBTA announced delays of around 30 minutes due to a “medical emergency” at South Station. Shortly after, they extended shuttle bus service to replace trains between the Kendall and JFK/UMass stops.

A crash on Interstate 93 in Medford, Massachusetts, sent four people to the hospital and caused major delays on Thursday morning. Troopers responded to I-93 south near exit 24 just after 5 a.m. for a three-vehicle crash, according to Massachusetts State Police, who said one of the vehicles hit was part of a road detail.
Massachusetts man charged in connection with illegal firearm smuggling between the US and Dominican Republic using household items
BOSTON – A Boston man was arrested and charged in federal court in Boston in connection with illegal firearm smuggling between the United States and the Dominican Republic. According to the Massachusetts Department of Justice, 26-year-old Alexis Lara Herrera was charged with one count of smuggling goods from the United States; aiding and abetting. Herrera made an initial appearance in federal court in Boston last Friday and pleaded not guilty. He is currently being held in federal custody pending trial.
