    Princeton Legion Post 216 falls in extra innings

    Princeton lost 5-2 to Elk River Post 112 in eight innings on Thursday, June 13

    Elk River Legion Post 112 needed extra innings against Princeton Post 216 on Thursday, June 13. Elk River scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning as Post 112 outlasted Princeton 5-2 at Mark Park in Princeton.

    Neither team scored in the first inning. In the second inning, Carter Lessard hit an RBI single to drive in Tim Johnson. Later in the second, Liam Marsh drove in a run on a 6-4 fielder’s choice. Logan Bitzan scored from third base on the play.

    Princeton responded in the bottom of the fourth inning when catcher Eli Gibbs drove in a run with an RBI double. Post 216 tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. After neither team scored in the seventh, Elk River third baseman T.J. Reilly drove in the go-ahead run with a double as shortstop Brett Groebner scored. Bitzan smacked an RBI single that drove in pinch runner Elias Herzog. Bitzan would score on a Princeton error.

    In the bottom of the eighth, pitcher Owen Van Drehle shut down the Post 216 bats to lock up Elk River’s third win of the season. Van Drehle earned the win and allowed no runs in the outing. Lukas Olson took the loss for Princeton.
