    Early Morning Art Studio Fire Displaces 10 In Massapequa

    MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. - Several people living in apartments above a Merrick Road art studio were displaced after a fire broke out early Sunday morning.

    Shortly after 2:15AM, the Massapequa Fire Department responded to Merrick Road and Unqua Road after a building fire was reported. First responders arrived on scene and confirmed that there was an active fire inside of an art studio on the first floor.

    Firefighters from the South Farmingdale and Amityville Fire Departments responded to assist with fighting the fire in the two-story building.

    The fire was brought under control and extinguished by fire crews before it could spread further throughout the large building. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

    All occupants of the building were evacuated. There were no reported injuries.

    The American Red Cross was requested to respond for at least 10 people who were living in apartments on the second floor and were displaced by the fire.

    Merrick Road was temporarily shut down in both directions in the vicinity of Unqua Road as firefighters operated at the scene. The road has since been reopened.
