    MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. - Thousands of attendees gathered for the funeral of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller on Saturday morning at the Saint Rose of Lima Church.

    Merrick Road, typically bustling with vehicle traffic on a Saturday, was shut down entirely and lined with thousands of funeral attendees mourning the loss of Jonathan Diller.

    Diller, a three-year veteran of the NYPD, was gunned down by a 21-time "career criminal" on Monday evening while conducting a routine traffic stop on an illegally parked car in Far Rockaway.

    Thousands of police officers from law enforcement agencies across the United States gathered to say their final goodbyes to the 31-year-old police officer, who was posthumously promoted to detective by NYPD Police Commissioner Edward Caban at Saturday morning's funeral service.

    "My husband died a hero, but he also lived as one," said Diller's widow, Stephanie.

    Detective Diller has been assigned the badge number 110, chosen as a tribute to his young son's birthday, Comissioner Caban said.
