PROVIDENCE – A tanker truck loaded with 11,000 gallons of gasoline tipped over on the Allens Avenue on-ramp to Interstate 95 north on Saturday night, leaking fuel onto the roadway, according to the state Department of Environmental Management, which sent an emergency crew to clean up the spill.

The area was cordoned off while DEM crews applied foam to the roadway and worked to prevent the highly flammable fuel and other chemicals from contaminating the nearby Providence River, according to a DEM news release. Vacuum trucks were used to pump the gasoline from the road and catch basin.

After containing the spill, crews would then work to secure and safely remove the truck, the DEM said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
