MCKINNEY, Texas — Four North Texas cities have the best real estate markets in the country, according to a new study from WalletHub. McKinney and Frisco took the number one and number two spots on the list. Denton and Allen were ranked eight and nine on the overall list but took first and second place on the list of cities with less than 150,000 residents.

Fort Worth to again annex acreage in Denton County, near Texas Motor Speedway
FORT WORTH — Fort Worth, known as where the West begins, plans to keep expanding its footprint to the north — by adding more acreage in Denton County. On Sept. 17, the Fort Worth City Council is expected to consider annexing more than 9 acres for right of way access for Dale Earnhardt Way near Texas Motor Speedway. The site, a triangular area north of State Highway 114 and west of Interstate 35W, is within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Fort Worth.

LETTER: Time to control spending in Copper Canyon
Copper Canyon needs new leadership. Our current town council, mayor and town manager have forgotten what is important to our citizens. Funny timing, but just prior to his last election Mayor Robertson “proudly” declared he was authorizing a tax rate cut. Now there is a public hearing for a tax rate increase. One can only assume this is due to overspending. This tax rate increase may be followed by a 6 cent additional increase for ESD #2.

TWU starts construction on former golf course for retention pond, flood control and nature trails
Texas Woman’s University started construction on a major drainage and stormwater collection project on Friday. The project, a retention pond on Mingo Road near downtown Denton, is designed to resolve drainage and stormwater issues. In a Facebook post, the university said the project will set the foundation for future nature trails that will be open to students, faculty, staff and the community.

DENTON, Aug. 15, 2024 – Texas Woman’s University (TWU) celebrated a key milestone in the construction of its new health sciences center, which is set to enhance academic programming and expand health-related services for the North Texas community. University officials, along with representatives from AECOM Hunt construction and SmithGroup architects, participated in a topping-off ceremony, marking the placement of the final beam in the building’s structure.
DCTA takes conservative approach, approves lower budget than last year at $64.2 million
The Denton County Transportation Authority Board of Directors approved a $64.2 million budget for fiscal year 2025, nearly $6 million less than the previous year. DCTA plans to allocate $51.9 million for operating expenses and $24.9 million for large investments or major maintenance projects. To account for the surplus expected between operating and maintenance expenses, DCTA expects to cover some expenses through other means, which could mean additional funding or financing.
