Evan rips Rob Manfred, 'frauds' at MLB for 'dumb' sticky substance check process

Evan wanted to come into Monday’s show to express excitement about the upcoming Subway Series, but instead, he went off on Rob Manfred and “the frauds that run Major League Baseball.”

“You have to explain to me, to Tiki, and Edwin Diaz why, for some people, ‘the hands are too sticky, can you wash your hands?’ Evan said. “That’s what they did with Max Scherzer last year.

“Domingo German, wash your hands. Clarke Schmidt, wash your hands…when those guys were told to wash their hands, they had already pitched in the game, meaning they could have already recorded illegal outs.”

Diaz was tossed from Sunday’s game after he was checked for sticky substances when he came in to close out the series over the Cubs, having never thrown a pitch in the game. Evan says the disparity between that and the numerous examples where pitchers were given a chance to clean their hands is an embarrassment to the league, and shows how flawed the procedure is.

“Let me get this straight, commish,” Evan said. “You guys and your umpires, your henchmen, will throw a guy out for never committing a crime, because he never pitched, but these other guys, ‘oh, wash your hands, it’ll be okay.’

“This is BS. It’s a joke, bro,” Evan said. “It is ridiculous that now, Edwin Diaz faces a 10-game suspension, and the Mets have to play shorthanded…they’re harmed because four dumb umpires said, ‘that’s too sticky.’”
