Carlos Mendoza joined Evan and Tiki live from Citi Field ahead of the Subway Series on Tuesday night, and was asked if the Mets’ turnaround can be pointed to the players-only meeting that was held after a disastrous loss to the Dodgers in late May.

Mendoza wasn’t involved in the meeting, as it was organized and held by the players, and while he wouldn’t say definitely whether that meeting sparked the team to go on to post the best record in baseball so far in June, but he was pleased that the meeting happened when it did.

“It was important for them to get together and get a lot of things off their chest, and basically call each other out,” Mendoza said. “You talk about accountability. How can we get better? Things got to get better. What are you doing to help this team?

“Coincidence that we started playing better? I don’t know.”

As for who was called out and what was said, Mendoza isn’t worried about that. He is more focused on the fact that the team has surged up the Wild Card standings and is now nipping at the heels of the .500 mark, and will let whatever happened behind closed doors stay with the players.

“I’ll leave that to the players. It was just players…that’s their room,” Mendoza said. “But I’m glad they did it. I’m glad that Francisco Lindor took over in that moment, and that he felt it was needed to get the team together.”
