Evan is worried that the injury to Kodai Senga on Friday night may have taken some of the air out of the Mets’ inspired stretch of baseball, but Morash says a half-empty Citi Field would be more to blame if that is the case.

“When you take the field like that and your stadium is half empty against a division rival,” Morash said. “That deflates you more than Kodai Senga.”

Just under 27,000 fans were in attendance for Sunday’s loss to the Braves, and Morash says the Mets faithful needed to show up and help New York take the four-game series. Instead, the Mets were hammered as the Braves bats came alive, and continued questions over the team’s ability to consistently fill the ballpark in 2024.

“When you are a team in the midst of a pennant race like the Mets are, and your nemesis is in the building, and you’ve already taken two games from them, and it’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon,” Morash said. “You can’t tell me that when you take the field as a New York Met and you look up and feel like you’re on the Montreal Expos, that it’s a little deflating.

“How do you not go to the game?! That’s a disgrace.”
