The New York Mets will play Game Two of their three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels at Angels Stadium on Saturday. New York won the first game on Friday 5-1 behind a quality start from Paul Blackburn, who was acquired by the team from a trade with the Oakland Athletics.
This time, it will be southpaw starting pitcher David Peterson (5-1, 3.52 ERA) taking the mound for the Mets. He is coming off a loss against the Atlanta Braves last weekend. However, the Mets have normally won in games he pitches.
Peterson will go up against right-hander José Soriano (6-7, 3.69 ERA). Soriano has been a bit inconsistent this season, and not so good in his last start against the A’s. He allowed three earned runs on five hits over two and two thirds innings.
The Mets are currently holding the third wild card spot in the National League. The Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks are the teams in front of them, with the San Diego Padres right behind in the hunt.
