Universal free school meals program sees successful first year
BOSTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — In the first year of state-funded universal free school meals, 12.2 million more lunches and 9 million more breakfasts were served over the previous year. Governor Healey announced nearly seven out of ten students are eating school lunches now, which frequently feature local food sources.
ABCD-U High School hails graduates
On June 14, seniors from ABCD’s University High School (UHS) crossed the graduation stage at the ABCD Thelma D. Burns Building in Roxbury with diplomas in hand and plans for the future in mind. The alternative high school for Boston students ages 16 to 22 operates in partnership with the Boston Public Schools and all graduates will continue their studies at local colleges in the fall or work at full or part-time jobs.

City Council postpones action on former Everett High; approves Feasibility Study for new High School
The Everett City Council voted to postpone action on appropriating $10 million for a new roof on the old Everett High School – located at 548 Broadway – pending more information on how much it would cost to renovate the building to house seventh- and eighth-graders, but approved a $2 million request for a Feasibility Study for a new High School at their meeting Monday, June 24. The vote on the roof funding was 7-4 with Councillors-at-Large John Hanlon and Katy Rogers, Ward 1 Councillor Wayne Matewsky and Ward 3 Councillor Anthony DiPierro in dissent.
