Evening Fire Engulfs Second Floor of Webster Avenue Home

WESTBROOK, Maine — Firefighters quickly responded to a fire that broke out on the second floor of a home on Webster Avenue Sunday evening. The fire, reported around 7:15 p.m., required the efforts of approximately 60 firefighters to bring it under control. Westbrook Fire Chief Steve Sloan stated that crews spent about 45 minutes battling the blaze, which fortunately resulted in no injuries or fatalities.

    Traffic Disruptions and Challenges

As firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, other personnel on the scene managed traffic near the intersection of Webster Avenue and Main Street, a busy area that posed additional challenges for the responders. Chief Sloan highlighted the difficulties of accessing water supplies in such locations, noting that the proximity to a major road can complicate the placement of emergency vehicles and slow down traffic.

    Investigation Underway

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with the Westbrook Fire Department receiving assistance from the state fire marshal's office. As the community awaits further details, the swift response by the fire department is being praised for preventing what could have been a more severe incident.
