RAHWAY, NJ — The Rahway Police Department is currently investigating a series of incidents involving the theft of cell phone packages delivered to homes in the community. These thefts have occurred immediately after the packages were delivered, often within minutes of the delivery.

The Rahway PD points out that these incidents are not limited to Rahway or even New Jersey, as such thefts are occurring in volume up and down the East Coast.

The Rahway PD urges all residents to stay vigilant and take the following safety precautions to prevent further thefts:

    • Request a Signature Delivery : Ensure that packages are not left unattended by requiring a signature upon delivery.
    • Choose Store Pickup : Opt for packages to be delivered to a store for secure retrieval.
    • Alternative Delivery Locations : Consider having packages delivered to a trusted neighbor or a secure location.
    • Track Your Deliveries : Monitor your packages and arrange to be home at the time of delivery if possible.
    • Report Suspicious Activity : Dial 9-1-1 to report any suspicious vehicles or individuals in your neighborhood.
    • Do Not Intervene : If you see a theft in progress, do not attempt to stop the suspect on your own. Call 9-1-1 and give the operator a detailed description of the individual, including clothing description, physical description, vehicle description, and direction of travel.

Anyone with information about these thefts is urged to contact the Rahway Police Department at (732) 388-1900.

Anonymous tips are welcomed and can greatly assist in our investigations. Your cooperation is essential in keeping our community safe.
