NC State Athletics was named the winner of the Front Office Sports 2024 Most Sustainable Award on Tuesday, which honors a department that “makes a commitment to the global need for climate action and more sustainable solutions.”

“NC State Athletics is thrilled to be recognized with this award,” Assistant AD for Fan Experience and Marketing Justin Lisk said in a statement “Our sustainability efforts over the past several years have truly been a team effort with buy-in from the top down.”

The Pack limited energy consumption by upgrading facilities to LED lighting, including Carter-Finley Stadium, Doak Field and the Dail Basketball Center, among other facilities on campus. The department also installed motion sensors to save energy, while using battery-powered maintenance equipment for its turf and grounds crews.

NC State’s Close-King Indoor Football Practice Facility, Reynolds Coliseum and the Carol Johnson Poole Golf Clubhouse all received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certifications from the US Green Building Council.

In addition to those pair of items, NC State has also limited water consumption with water bottle filling stations for fans. The irrigation system at Lonnie Poole Golf Course, Carter-Finley Stadium and Doak Field are all sustainable to reduce water usage.

NC State has also worked with Adidas to use recycled materials for its uniforms. The Wolfpack football uniforms were all made of recycled materials during the 2023 season.

The Wolfpack was the only collegiate athletic department to win the award. It was joined by Goal, UBA Arena, the World Surf League, Waste Management, the Moda Center, the Spectrum Center, Gillette Stadium, Liverpool FC and SailGP on the list of honorees.

    Tweets of the day

Former NC State quarterback Jacoby Brissett has an early edge in the New England Patriots’ position battle, it appears.

Wolfpack defensive coordinator Tony Gibson has high expectations for sophomore cornerback Brandon Cisse this fall.

    Quote of the day

NC State’s secondary is littered with talent this fall. Gibson believes that it is one of the Pack’s most prepared groups of the defense.

“We feel really good about that spot,” Gibson said. “We’re deeper than we’ve been since I’ve been here.”
