RAYMOND, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Detainees at the Hinds County Detention Center could qualify for a new workforce program that was approved by Hinds County supervisors on Monday.
The program will be in partnership with Second Strive Workforce Solutions.
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said detainees will have to meet certain criteria and be approved before they can start the program. They will be able to earn pay that can go toward restitution, savings or other financial responsibilities.
Hinds County youth advocate promotes mentorship to help curb crime Jones said those approved will have to wear a monitoring device while out.
“We’re just glad that we have a third party group that are able to help us with this. They will be completely in charge of the administration, of the job, the job duties, too,” the sheriff stated.
He also said the program enables detainees to help their communities. The program is set to begin within the next two months.
