Newton softball outlasts Knoxville in extras

But after Mack Sims led off the 11th with a single and then stole second, head coach Kory Leiker had no thoughts of bunting her over to third. That decision proved to be the right one as Chloe Swank's opposite field RBI single gave the Cardinals a 1-0 non-conference win over the Panthers. ...

Knoxville Baseball Rained Out, Softball Travels To Chariton With Conference Title Implications
Rain chased away any hopes of playing a baseball game on Panther Drive last night as the Knoxville and PCM meeting was called off. That ends the Mustangs regular season at 9-12 and will face Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Saturday in the class 2A district. Knoxville still has a few more regular season games left including tonight’s unusual double header at home against Wayne and South Tama. The Panthers will play Wayne at 5:00 and then South Tama at 7:15, the scheduled game at Creston has now been cancelled. Meanwhile, the Knoxville Softball Squad will look to move one step closer to a South Central Conference title as the Panthers travel to Chariton tonight. The Panthers with a win would still control their own destiny for at least a share of the conference title. Coach Chris Peden tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the team is in this position because of their willingness to get better at practice.

Pella Baseball Team Unable to Contain Ranked Johnston
Despite holding firm with four scoreless innings, #10 in 3A Pella could not hold off the lineup of #4 in Class 4A Johnston in a non-conference baseball tilt on Wednesday, falling 13-6. After zeros across the board for both teams, the Dragons overwhelmed Dutch pitching in the 5th to the tune of a 10-run top half of the inning. Pella would respond to avoid the mercy rule, scoring four times in the bottom of the 5th, before the road team added three more tallies in the top of the 6th. A two-run triple by Isaiah Kettler would mark the end of the runs between the teams in the bottom of the 6th before a scoreless final inning. Samuel Carlson finished 2-for-3 with a double, Anderson Schirm was 2-for-4, and Kettler added another hit in the effort. Pella falls to 21-8 and continues at home Friday vs. Ballard, a game that can be heard on 92.1 KRLS.
