Iowa Zoo Facing Cruelty Allegations After the Death of a Shark
An Iowa aquarium is facing calls to shut down after it euthanized a shark that bit an employee this week. The Des Moines Register reports that Blue Zoo, a for-profit aquarium, opened in May in the Villages at Jordan Creek Town Center. The euthanized shark is reportedly the second animal to die at the facility since it opened, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Register reports that the Humane Society of the United States is calling for an investigation and for Blue Zoo to close.

Des Moines police searching for robbery suspect who is considered 'armed and dangerous'
DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police are asking the public for help in locating a man who allegedly robbed a person at a local park. Police say 20-year-old Masio Andrew Vangenderen allegedly assaulted and stole a gun from a victim. Vangenderen has a warrant out for his arrest for second degree robbery.

New Illinois Law Requires Weather Radios In Certain Homes
It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.
South Central Conference Announces All-Conference Selections
The South Central Conference has released its baseball and softball all-conference selections. Knoxville earned 1st team in both sports. For baseball, Lincoln Norris was selected to the 1st team. Norris went 7-2 on the mound with a 1.47 ERA and led the team with 70 strikeouts. Offensively he batted .340 and led the team with 32 hits and drove in 22 runs. On the 2nd team was Dakota Ramsey, Luke Roozeboom, and Kyler Gifford. Honorable mention was Brady Roozeboom, Brenden Woolsey, and Regan Roberts. For softball it was Ciara Heffron who was chosen for the 1st team. As a pitcher she went 8-8 on the season with 132 strikeouts to just 37 walks. At the plate she batted a team leading .429 with 33 hits, ten home runs and 18 RBI, all led the Panthers. On the 2nd team was Anna Anderson and on honorable mention it was Charlye Willis and Marlea Cox. Knoxville Baseball finished 16-18 while softball finished up at 11-14.
