    Reno wins twice on Friday to advance to 5A state baseball championship

    Reno High won twice on Friday and next the Huskies play for the 5A state baseball championship.

    Reno beat Bishop Manogue 3-2, to eliminate the Miners on Friday, then got a big first inning to beat and eliminate Coronado, 6-2 in the 5A state baseball tournament at Faith Lutheran in Southern Nevada.

    Reno will play Palo Verde at 9 a.m. Saturday at Bishop Gorman. If Reno wins that game, the if-necessary game will follow.

    Reno's starting pitcher Mack Edwards allowed three hits through six innings in the win over Coronado.

    Palo Verde beat Coronado 4-0 on Friday to send the Cougars into the losers' bracket.

    Coronado beat Reno, 5-4 on Thursday to send the Huskies into the losers' bracket.

    • Saturday at Fallon: 10 a.m., 3A championship, Virgin Valley vs The Meadows.
