Football, soccer, volleyball, track stars up for Champion Chevrolet Athlete of the Week

These are the Aug. 17-25 nominees for Champion Chevrolet RGJ High School Athlete of the Week, which recognizes top performances among Northern Nevada's high school athletes. Send the names and stats for any outstanding performance by a Northern Nevada high school athlete for consideration for Champion Chevrolet RGJ High School Athletes of the Week list, and vote for this week’s nominees in the poll below. Voting will continue through Aug. 29 at 11:59 p.m.

Jackson Mathews, sophomore, Reno: Mathews rushed 13 times for 129 yards and three touchdowns in the Huskies’ 32-18 win over Palo Verde in football on Saturday.

Jayden Purdum, junior, Reed: Purdum caught two passes, both for touchdowns, including a 79-yard TD, in the Raiders’ 28-14 win over Del Oro in football on Friday, Aug. 23.

Erick Rodriguez, senior, Galena: Rodriguez rushed 20 times for 111 yards in the Grizzlies’ 29-6 win over Chavez in football on Aug. 23.

Nathan Shannon, junior, Bishop Manogue: Shannon rushed 15 times for 60 yards and a TD in the Miners’ 21-14 win over Saint Mary’s in football on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Jace Estabrook, senior, Truckee: Estabrook rushed five times for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the Wolverines’ 36-14 win over Damonte Ranch in football on Aug. 24.

Drake Hardcastle, senior, Carson: Hardcastle was 10-of-17 for 117 yards and two touchdowns in the Senators’ 34-15 win over Spring Creek in football on Aug. 23.

Caelen Kellett, senior, Galena: Kellett scored two goals as the Grizzlies beat Sparks 4-0 in boys soccer on Aug. 21 at Sparks.

Jacobi Regan, senior, McQueen: Regan was credited with 20 tackles, 18 solo, in the Lancers’ 29-20 loss to Union Mine in football on Aug. 23.

Lily Houston, senior, Reno: Houston had seven kills on 14 attempts along with two aces in the Huskies’ 3-0 win over Spanish Springs in volleyball on Aug. 22. She had 13 kills in a 3-1 loss to Galena on Aug. 20.

Scarlett Smith, senior, Spanish Springs: Smith had nine kills on 12 attempts, four aces, two blocks and six digs in the Cougars’ 3-0 win over Damonte Ranch in volleyball on Aug. 20.

Jaxsynn Bailey, junior, Reed: Bailey had 10 kills, three aces, two blocks and nine digs in the Raiders’ 3-1 win over Bishop Manogue in volleyball on Aug. 20.

Taylor Grayson, senior, McQueen: Grayson had 18 kills, two aces two blocks and nine digs in the Lancers’ 3-1 win over Carson in volleyball on Aug. 22.

Kambri Felsted, senior, Spanish Springs : Felsted won the senior girls cross country race at the Douglas class races on Aug. 23, posting a time of 14 minutes, 29 seconds on the 2.55-mile course.

Sawyer Macy, senior, Carson: Macy won the senior boys cross country race at the Douglas class races on Aug. 23, posting a time of 12:06 on the 2.55-mile course.
