Ravens on Wrong End of Shut Out Against Panthers
Just 24 hours after clinching the Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division Championship, the Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball team suffered a setback 2-0 in Kalona at the hands of the Pekin Panthers. Pekin got two runs in their first at bat, and Panther pitchers JaeDon Wolver and Henry Adam made those two tallies stand up. The Pekin pair combined to allow just three hits and two walks while striking out 16 Raven batters. After surrendering two in the first, Hillcrest starter Seth Ours went five innings, scattering nine hits and two earned runs while striking out six. Phoenix Anderson worked two frames with a walk and two strikeouts. Hillcrest got a hit each from Liam Schrock, Mason Helmuth and Lincoln Miller. The Ravens are now 15-4 after the loss, Pekin is 9-9. Hillcrest is next on the diamond Saturday when they host HLV in the first round of the Class 1A Playoffs.
Demon Baseball Barely Beaten by Fairfield
The Washington Demon baseball team came up just short in a 2-1 pitcher’s duel with conference rival Fairfield. The game was actually partially started back on June 13th, when Fairfield scored a run in the first inning but Washington stranded the bases loaded before torrential rain moved in to pause the action.

Golden Hawk Baseball and Softball Set For Senior Night Wednesday
There’s an air of celebration in Wellman and Kalona Wednesday as the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk summer sports teams get set to honor their Seniors with a set of contests. The Golden Hawk softball team is at Carr, Vincent, Gould Field tonight to match up with West Liberty. The Hawks are 7-22 on the season after falling in a pair of games Monday to West Branch 7-6 and 10-7. On the year, Mid-Prairie is hitting .300 as a club with a .390OBP and .391 slug, scoring 139 runs on 183 hits with 63 walks and 120 strikeouts. Individually, four Hawks are at .300 or better, led by Dakota Mitchell’s team best .431 average on 31 total hits and 31 runs scored. Kadence Grout has a team best 20 driven in. Sophie Miller, Grout and Gabi Robertson are all over the .300 mark. In the circle, Grout has logged 90 innings with a 6-11 record and .366 opponent average on 155 hits, 69 earned runs, 23 walks and 34 strikeouts working out to a 5.33ERA.

TIFFIN – On the eve of the Fourth of July it was the Clear Creek Amana bats that provided the fireworks on Wednesday evening. Clear Creek Amana exploded for nine runs in the third inning on its way to an impressive 12-0, five-inning win over Fairfield (21-9) in a non-conference contest in Tiffin.
Nikes Top Hawks in Ranked Senior Night Showdown Wednesday in Wellman
The No. 12 in Class 2A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team celebrated their seniors early, but it was the No. 2 in Class 1A Burlington Notre Dame Nikes who celebrated at the end of the night, with a 5-4 win in Wellman in the regular season finale for both teams. Notre Dame got on the board first with single runs in the first and third frames to build a lead against Mid-Prairie starter Brock Harland. The Golden Hawk answer came in the third, when Mid-Prairie sent eight to the plate, scoring three runs to take their first lead of the game. Bowen Burmeister, Tatem Telfer and Dylan Henry all hurried home on RBI hits by Harland and Joe Hall to make it 3-2 Hawks. In the fourth, the lead expanded when Telfer singled in Brady Weber, who had reached on an error, to go up 4-2. Burlington Notre Dame drew even in the sixth with two runs. They would take the lead for good in the seventh with an unearned run. The Hawks threatened in their last at bat, moving the tying run to third and getting the winning run on, but could not drive them in.
