RICHMOND, Ind. — An Ohio man has been charged after police said he fired more than 20 shots into a house and a car in Richmond in November 2023.

According to court documents, filed earlier this month in Wayne County, 43-year-old Bryan Orr was charged with one count of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony, and one count of battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony.

On Nov. 21, 2023, officers with the Richmond Police Department were dispatched to a home on North 15th Street in reference to shots being fired. A caller reportedly told police that a dark colored truck was seen leaving the area after “someone’s house had just got shot up.”

When officers arrived on scene, they reportedly found more than 20 spent shell casings near the home. Officers found that rounds had gone through the home’s garage door, storm door and the front living room windows. More rounds reportedly went through walls of the home and the couch in the living room.

The homeowner told police that he was not at home during the shooting but told police that his son was standing at the front door when the shooting reportedly occurred.

When officers asked the homeowner if he knew who would have shot his house, the homeowner said that he had “no beef with anyone and does not know why anyone who would target his residence.”

In an interview with the homeowner’s son, he reportedly told police that he “had no idea who would have been trying to shoot him,” telling police that “he was just walking out of the residence and shut the main entry door when he heard gunshots being fired at him.”

The son described the suspect vehicle to police as a dark-colored sport utility vehicle. The documents said that police later identified the vehicle through area footage as a GMC Yukon. A detective working on patrol told detectives he had located a black GMC Yukon that matched the description, a vehicle that later matched area footage of the reported shooting.

After the vehicle was towed, officers received a phone call from the vehicle’s owner, a woman who lived in Tennessee. The woman told police that the vehicle belonged to a family member of hers, later identified as Orr.

The documents said that Orr later arrived at the department because he “wanted his vehicle.” After an initial altercation, Orr was taken to an interview room where officials explained to him why his car was in police custody.

As officers were providing the information to Orr, the documents said that Orr never denied any of the details of the shooting. The family member later re-emphasized that Orr was the only person to drive the Yukon.

According to court documents, Orr is out on a $5,000 cash bond. Orr’s pretrial conference is scheduled for Sept. 16 and his jury trial is scheduled for Oct. 8.
