    Richmond Police Chief to Hold First Crime Briefing of 2024

    Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond City Police Chief Rick Edwards will hold a crime briefing today at 1 p.m. to discuss statistics and trends of crimes that have impacted the city in recent months.

    The crime briefing will be held at Richmond Police Headquarters.

    Chief Edwards will offer information about opportunities and events for people in the community to engage and participate in as a joint effort to reduce crime in the community.

    Edwards will also address the recent uptick in deadly shootings . Since March 31, eight people have been shot and killed, including four juveniles – one 14-year-old and three 16-year-olds. There was another violence incident – a deadly shooting in the city’s East End – on Wednesday April 17.

    The early start of Operation Safe Summer will also be mentioned in the briefing. Richmond Police decided to start the program early this year in response to the recent violence in the city.
