Youngkin Holds Event in Richmond on National Fentanyl Awareness Day

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne Youngkin held an event Tuesday at City Stadium to discuss the dangers of fentanyl.

May 7 was National Fentanyl Awareness and Prevention Day. The State Health Department said nearly 2,000 Virginians died from fentanyl overdoses last year.

Governor Youngkin urged athletic coaches to talk to their players about the dangers of fentanyl.

“Take their team and sit down with them and say, ‘Here is the reality, if you take something that isn’t prescribed by your doctor and picked up by a pharmacy and acknowledged by your parents, you are taking a tremendous risk of dying,'” said Youngkin.

Naloxone is an over-the-counter medication that reverses an overdose. It’s most commonly used in the form of a nasal spray, and anyone can administer it.
