Bettendorf motorcyclist seriously injured in Scott County crash
A Bettendorf motorcyclist who has not been identified was injured Thursday night in Scott County, according to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. About 7:30 p.m., the Scott Emergency Communication Center received a call of a motorcycle accident at the intersection of 115th Avenue and New Liberty Road. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and an investigation was conducted.

Davenport woman sentenced for assault with scissors
A 57-year-old Davenport woman was sentenced to prison Thursday after she pleaded guilty in connection with theft of a cell phone and a threat with scissors. Debra Miller pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree theft and a charge of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. She appeared in court with her attorney and was sentenced to up to 10 years for the theft charge and up to two years for the assault charge.

Rock Island Fire Department appoints new deputy fire chief
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) -A new deputy fire chief has been appointed in Rock Island. Rock Island Fire Chief Bob Graff has appointed Fire Marshal Greg Marty to the position of Deputy Fire Chief, according to Rock Island city officials. Deputy Fire Chief Marty was appointed on Wednesday to replace Assistant Fire Chief Terry Smith, who retired on Wednesday. The position has been renamed to reflect the duties of the role.
Firms propose recommendations to Davenport's building code after fatal collapse
DAVENPORT, Iowa — More than a year after the tragic building collapse at 324 Main St., the City of Davenport is reviewing its current building codes and regulations. Three people died and one woman lost her leg as a result of the collapse on May 28, 2023, along with dozens being displaced and losing their possessions. Just days before, on May 23, an engineer’s report showed that the west wall appeared "ready to fall imminently.” However, that wasn’t the only warning sign. Issues at the former Hotel Davenport were noted in the years, months and days before the tragedy, according to a class action lawsuit and inspection reports from the City.
