The eyes of the world are on Iowa as deep in the throes of the Cold War, Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev makes a visit to tour its farms, claiming his nation will soon rival the state in corn production. The Register's sister afternoon paper, the Des Moines Tribune, reports on his Sept. 22, 1959, arrival at the Des Moines airport to visit his friend, seed entrepreneur Roswell Garst, in Coon Rapids. The excursion follows a Pulitzer-winning 1956 editorial by the Register's Lauren K. Soth inviting a Soviet delegation to come to Iowa to study its agriculture.

A Muscatine woman faces 67 counts of animal neglect following her arrest July 9 following an investigation by the Muscatine Sheriff’s Department. Kelly Marie Adams, 44, of 2431 Highway 22, Muscatine, was arrested on July 9, 2024, and charged with six counts of Animal Neglect Resulting in Serious Injury or Death under Iowa Code 717B.3(5) and 61 counts of Animal Neglect No Injury under Iowa Code 717B.3(3). Single-game ticket sales now open for the 2024 UNI football season
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Single-game tickets for the UNI's 2024 football home matchups are now available for purchase through the UNI Ticket Office. The 2024 Panther football schedule will see five matchups inside the UNI-Dome beginning with the season opener on August 31 against the Valparaiso Beacons at 4 p.m. CT. The season opener will be the first of three TC's Kids Club days. Northern Iowa's home slate continues on October 5 when the Panthers host the reigning FCS National Champion South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Family Weekend, also set for a 4 p.m. CT kick.
