Teacher Killed in Lawnmower Accident
A Don Bosco teacher has died in a tragic lawnmower incident near Jesup. Jake Knepper was attempting to load a commercial grade lawnmower onto a trailer shortly before 1:00 p.m. Thursday when it tipped off the side of the trailer, rolled down and pinned Knepper underneath. Firefighters removed the mower and attempted life saving measures but Knepper was pronounced dead at the scene. A student vigil will be held inside the Don Bosco gymnasium after morning Mass Friday morning and a staff support circle and prayer vigil will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. A community prayer vigil will be held at a later date. The incident remains under investigation at this time.
New Cedar Rapids Michael’s Store to Open in August
Craft lovers rejoice! A new Michael's store will open in Cedar Rapids next month!. If you love crafting or your kids need materials for a school project, you head to Michaels. The location at 1470 Twixt Town Road in Marion has been open since 1993. Now, another Michael's location will be opening up on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the new Michael's store will be located at 3500 Dalton Way SW. It will be in the same building as Ross Dress for Less in the Westdale Town Center.
New bobbleheads commemorate ‘Herky on Parade’
The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in conjunction with the University of Iowa and Think Iowa City has unveiled 25 officially licensed, limited-edition bobbleheads commemorating the 20th anniversary of Herky on Parade. Day Care Horror: Waterloo Woman Accused of Abusing Children
A parent's worst fear is finding out that someone that they trusted with their child was actually hurting them. According to recent reports, a Waterloo day care worker has been charged with three different counts of child endangerment. The woman in question is allegedly Emily Jenkins and she was arrested on Thursday, July 11th.
Iowa women’s basketball target Kate Harpring recognized among ESPN’s summer standouts
One of the names that has emerged on Iowa’s recruiting board is talented 2026 guard Kate Harpring. Harpring picked up an offer from Jan Jensen and the Iowa Hawkeyes earlier this week after a standout showing in the Select Events’ Midwest Summer Classic in Ohio. Burlington Woman Arrested After Traffic Stop
On July 16, 2024, at approximately 9:03p.m. Des Moines County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at Central Ave. and Columbia St. in Burlington, IA. During the traffic stop deputies were given consent to search the vehicle. Deputies located methamphetamine inside of a coin purse where the backseat passenger had been sitting.

Mississippi River receding since reaching flood stages late June
Quad Cities Hydrologist Matt Wilson says a mostly dry forecast into the next week is allowing the Mississippi River to retreat after hitting flood stages in late June. "We're expecting that the flood stages are going to be decreasing. Thankfully, we're now in full-blown recession from Dubuque down to Keokuk," says Wilson.
