The fire erupted around 5:20 p.m. Monday in the area of Juniper Flats Road and Mapes Road. The fire was reported to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The blaze threatened the community of Homeland just weeks after another vegetation fire in the same area.. Numerous engines and air resources were called to fight the flames. This vegetation fire was dubbed the “Juniper Fire.”

Just before 9 p.m., Cal Fire reported the fire remains at 15 acres and is now 80% contained. Firefighters will remain at the scene overnight strengthening containment lines and extinguishing hot spots.
