ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — New York State has received over $800,000 in federal funding for three fire departments in the Rochester area.

The Rochester Fire Department will receive over $700,000 to boost its training and develop new instructors and fire officers. The Ridge Road Fire District will receive over $65,000 and the City of Batavia will receive $60,000.

The funding was announced by Senator Schumer, Senator Gillibrand, and Representative Morelle. The funding was allocated from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The purpose is to provide fire departments with protective gear, training, and emergency supplies.

“This award from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program will provide critical resources to further protect the safety of our firefighters during fires and fire-related hazards, which ultimately improves our ability to protect the public,” Mayor Evans said in a statement.
