ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — AutismUp joined iCan Shine Thursday to help local children learn to ride a bicycle.

Event organizers say their mission is give everyone access to fun and healthy activities.

This event is part of a five-day camp which runs until Friday. There are over 40 people taking part and over 70 volunteers.

Thursday, many of the campers transitioned to a two-wheel bike.

“We started out Monday, some of them were scared to even get near a bike,” support coach McKenna Johnson said. “It’s a very scary thing if you can’t do it. I mean, I remember when I started riding a bike and I was so scared. And we almost have everyone on a two wheel bike by yesterday and then now we’re outside and they’re cruisin’.”

This is the program’s 14th year. More than 400 people have been taught to ride in that time.
