ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – President Biden has made the decision to drop out of the 2024 race, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for the Presidential nomination.

Several local representatives are responding to Biden’s decision, ending his 50-year-long career in politics.

Senator Chuck Schumer said in a statement:

“Joe Biden has not only been a great president and a great legislative leader but he is a truly amazing human being. His decision of course was not easy, but he once again put his country, his party, and our future first.

“Joe, today shows you are a true patriot and great American.”

A statement from Congressman Joe Morelle reads:

“President Biden has done what every true leader ought to: put the needs of our country ahead of himself. This difficult decision is an act of true patriotism for the good of our democracy.”

“I am deeply grateful for all he has done to create a better America over the past four years and throughout his lifetime of public service.”

    “Thank you, Mr. President.”

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello posted on “X” formally known as Twitter stating:

“President Biden is a true patriot. The President put his allegiance to the country ahead of his own ambition. It is the kind of difficult and selfless decision a true leader makes. I thank the President for his service to our nation.”

    Mayor Malik Evans stated:

“President Biden has delivered historic progress for America’s cities, and mayors have been critical partners in that work. Legislation such as the American Rescue Plan, and transformative bills such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and CHIPS and Science Act have greatly benefited the Rochester region. I thank the President for his service and look forward to the upcoming convention where our nominee will be officially selected.”

Senator Kristen Gillibrand released an official statement:

“President Biden has served our country with courage, compassion, integrity and decency. I am honored to have served in the Senate during his administration, which achieved historic accomplishments related to gun safety, veterans’ health care, infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, climate change, prescription drugs, and more. President Biden has improved the lives of millions of Americans and leaves behind a legacy that will echo for generations. On behalf of myself and every New Yorker: Thank you, Joe.”

Assemblymember Harry Bronson also released a statement:

“Today President Biden has made the extraordinary decision to withdraw from the 2024 Presidential race. I have been proud to call him our President, and this decision, above all else, underscores his devotion to our country and the American people. He has been a historic President, a change-maker in so many respects, and instrumental in leading us towards a brighter future through investments in infrastructure reform, a green economy, and ensuring equity for all Americans. He also saw us through the pandemic, guaranteeing our economy remained strong.”

“I thank President Biden for his enduring legacy of service and believe he will be remembered as one of our best Presidents, certainly in the modern era.”
