    Former Rockford Rivet Brett Sears drafted by the Braves

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Former Rockford Rivets pitcher Brett Sears is about to begin his professional baseball career. He was selected in the MLB Draft Monday by the Atlanta Braves. Sears was selected in the seventh round.

    Sears appeared in one game for the Rivets in the 2023 Northwoods League season. He went 4-0 with a sterling 0.62 ERA.

    This spring while pitching for the University of Nebraska, Sears was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. He went 9-1 with a 2.16 ERA. In 104 innings pitched he struck out 101 batters. Sears was named a second team All-American by several outlets including Baseball America and D1Baseball.
