Maryland football 2024 opponent preview: Michigan State
As Maryland's football season inches closer, our opponent preview series rolls on. After battling UConn at home to start the season, the Terps will welcome Michigan State for their Big Ten opener in Week 2. The game – set for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 7 – breaks up the three-game nonconference schedule, as Maryland will travel to Virginia and host Villanova after the Big Ten opener.
‘Foggy Bottom Stalker’ | Police arrest man accused of stalking woman in DC
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said that officers took a man, whom some dubbed the “Foggy Bottom Stalker,” into custody on July 21. Police said 39-year-old Delonta Deon Spriggs of Northeast is accused of stalking a woman in the Foggy Bottom and Georgetown community in Northwest D.C.
Theatre Review: ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘The Rover, or the Banish’d Cavaliers’ presented by Shakespeare Theatre Company Academy
For the first time in its 24 years in existence, Shakespeare Theatre Company is presenting the final performances of the STC Academy’s Master of Fine Arts program on one of the theatre’s main stages. The Repertory productions are Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” and the 1677 Restoration comedy, “The Rover, or the Banish’d Cavaliers,” by Aphra Benn. The actors in this year’s class are strong talents, and we can expect to see them trodding the boards at STC and other top theatres in no time. With few exceptions, they prove to be exceptional performers. That said, the two shows selected for the Academy Summer Repertory have a few issues.

Man who pushed woman out of moving car near Ballston sentenced
A Maryland man has been sentenced to 45 years behind bars after pushing a woman out of a moving vehicle near Ballston, causing severe injuries. Willie James Clements Jr., 61, was sentenced to 35 years for aggravated malicious wounding, as well as the maximum 10 years for hit-and-run, in Arlington County Circuit Court last week.
Maryland adds 5,600 jobs in June, unemployment rate creeps higher
BALTIMORE, MD—Maryland added 5,600 total jobs in June, including 3,900 in the private sector, according to monthly data released by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. The growth rate last month (0.2 percent) was double the national rate (0.1 percent).

The Virginia Dream FC soccer team, on the heels of becoming the United Premier Soccer League’s DMV South Conference playoff champions, also won another recent title. The Dream, based in Falls Church, defeated the host Annapolis Blues, 2-0, to win the men’s National Premier Soccer League’s Mid-Atlantic Conference crown. The win came after the Dream earned a 3-2 comeback victory over Alexandria Reds Pro in a semifinal match.
Iowa Hawkeye Football Schedule Prep: Week 11 vs. Maryland
The 2024 regular season will near its end as the Hawkeyes make one final road trip to College Park, Maryland to take on the Terrapins. The Iowa Hawkeyes have met Maryland in four games, all since Maryland joined the Big Ten.
