This day in Rutgers history: RU joins the Big Ten Conference
Today is a memorable day in Rutgers history as it was exactly 10 years ago that Rutgers joined the Big Ten. Tim Pernetti helped usher in the Big Ten membership as Rutgers' athletic director but was not in charge when the official membership began. Pernetti gave way to Julie Hermann in 2013 months after the Mike Rice debacle when Rutgers gained unwanted national attention for Rice's abusive treatment toward his players.
