Authorities in Mercer County responded to reports of a body in a canal on Wednesday morning.Chopper 6 was over the scene at the D&R Canal north of Whitehead Road in Lawrence Township.Police say the body of a male was spotted around 10:30 a.m. by a person walking their dog along the waterway.There was no immediate word on the circumstances of the person's death.A heavy police presence was seen as crews worked to recover the body.New Jersey state park police are handling the investigation

A 45-year-old New Jersey woman inside a camper at a campground in upstate New York was killed by tree that fell during a powerful storm on Saturday, officials said. Carol E. Luistro was pinned under the tree at the Russell Brook Campsites in Colchester at about 10:50 a.m., police in the Delaware County town said. Luistro, of Edison, was pronounced dead at the scene.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Authorities have arrested and charged a Bridgeton man in connection to a fatal accident on Route 1 in April, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Joseph Vega, age 43, was arrested by authorities in Georgia for causing the accident which resulted in the death of three people. The crash occurred on Friday, April 12. Monmouth County DWI Task Force adding checkpoint, more patrols over Fourth of July weekend
WALL - A drunken driving checkpoint will be set up on Route 138 on Friday night to screen motorists for their sobriety, according to the Monmouth County DWI Task Force. All westbound motor vehicles on the state highway will be diverted onto Maxwell Drive from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday. Wall Police officers will be working alongside task force members during the four-hour operation, said Allenhurst Police Chief Michael Schneider, task force coordinator.

Two police officers were injured while helping people escape a raging house fire in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on Wednesday.Officers responded to 61 Water Street around 5 p.m. and found multiple people trying to escape from the back windows of the home.Video shows the moment the multi-family home partially collapsed as it was consumed by flames.Fortunately, officers were able to help the victims get down to safety from the third and fourth floors of the home, just in time.The two injured officers were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
