ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — One family in Northwest Arkansas is working to keep the legacy of their late grandfather alive in a unique way: through selling fireworks.

Just off the side of Highway 62 in Rogers is where Cluck’s Fireworks has been for years, and it has a long-standing history.

According to Trey Cluck, the first stand was “just a driveway or two down” from the current stand.

“My grandparents started it in 1971. They started out in a little three-foot by six-foot box, basically wooden box,” said Cluck.

Cluck says his grandpa got the idea from a friend and decided that he should give the firework business a try. Since then, the stand has been passed down through three generations; it is currently run by Trey’s sister. They say for as long as they can remember, the stand has been well-known staple in the area.

“I have people say, you know, ‘my mom and dad used to come here when they were kids, and my grandparents came here with my parents.’ Everyone [knew] Grandpa… It’s when they hear the last name, that’s the first person they think of,” said Cluck.

This Fourth of July season, the firework stand opened for its 53rd consecutive year. The Cluck’s say that after their grandpa passed six years ago, it’s been hard to find the motivation each year to keep going.

“There’s been many years I wanted to quit and not do it. It’s hot and it’s only three weeks out of the year. But many years I’ve wanted to quit it and I just keep pushing it, but you know, it’s for Grandpa,” Cluck said.

However, the memory of the Cluck’s grandpa still remains, inspiring them to carry on.

“Grandpa loved it. He would sit back there, and bark orders all the time… Everybody would come in just to see him. There’d be people that stopped and wouldn’t even buy anything just to see him,” Cluck recalled.

In the coming years, the family says they plan to pass the business down to the fourth generation, and they have big dreams for what it will become.

“Well, I’m gonna try to get some billboards, more firework stands, and spread this all across America” said Kyler Dixon, one of the fourth-generation children.

The Cluck family says they hope one day they’ll be able to celebrate a 100th anniversary.

Cluck’s Fireworks is located on North Highway 62 in Rogers, in the Refuge Church parking lot. They say they will continue to sell fireworks until July 10th, or until customers stop coming.
