In March 2024, Marianna Elizabeth Pickens-Quiroz from Round Rock and Christopher Scott Vanderslice from Hutto were killed in a crash on Highway 36 in Callahan County.

The crash report indicates that Pickens-Quiroz and Vanderslice were inside a car that was hit by another vehicle attempting to pass a third car at a high rate of speed. All three vehicles collided upon impact, and a fourth vehicle struck some debris.

Reports indicate that 19-year-old Theophilus Heryanto was the driver attempting to pass the third vehicle. He has been charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
