Grass fire burns home, several cars in north Sacramento 02:07

NORTH SACRAMENTO — Multiple buildings, including at least one home, and several cars were involved in a fire in the north Sacramento area Monday afternoon, officials said.

The Sacramento Fire Department said it happened in the area of Rood Avenue and Dry Creek Road, near Rio Linda. Around 10-15 cars were burning and, in addition to the structures, trees and grass were also on fire.

The home was a total loss, however, no one was injured. The fire nearly reached a second home as it spread through dry grass, but firefighters were able to gain control of it before that happened.

Captain Justin Sylvia with the fire department said a single engine first responded to a tree fire in the area. The fire then quickly spread to the grass.

"That grass [fire] quickly spread to all kinds of nearby cars, fences, outbuildings and then it did get a house involved," he said.
