What’s better than a day of wine tasting? A day of wine tasting with your four-legged best friend! If you (and your fur baby) are headed to California’s beautiful wine country, then you won’t want to miss these dog-friendly wineries in Livermore, one of my favorite wine regions in San Francisco’s East Bay.

While France may be known for its laissez-faire attitude towards dogs in restaurants (nothing says “bon appétit” like a poodle watching you eat escargot), America’s health codes are much more strict. But fear not, wine lovers with canine companions! These Livermore wineries are here to save your day drinking plans. Just remember, your pup’s sophisticated palate stops at fresh water and tasty treats.

    1. 3 Steves

5700 Greenville Rd, Livermore, CA 94550

At 3 Steves, you can enjoy award-winning wines with panoramic views while your dog wonders why you keep sniffing your glass. Just keep Fido leashed, or he might try to become the fourth Steve.

    2. Bent Creek Winery

5455 Greenville Rd, Livermore, CA 94550

Bring your well-behaved, leashed dog to enjoy spectacular views while you sip. Maybe he’ll finally understand why you always come home smelling like fermented fruit.

    3. Dante Robere

1200 Wetmore Rd, Livermore, CA 94550

Your dog is welcome to join you at the bar, on the patio, or on the grassy knoll. Enjoy the wine country views with a picnic, and let your pup put the "cute" in charcuterie.

    4. Darcie Kent

7000 Tesla Rd Suite A, Livermore, CA 94550

Darcie Kent doesn’t just make wine — she creates art on bottles. Bring your pup to appreciate her work (because we all know dogs are able to pick the perfect pour based on the label design). They’ll provide water bowls, clean-up stations, and treats — everything but a tiny easel for your artistic canine.

    5. Longevity Wines

    2271 S Vasco Rd b, Livermore, CA 94550B

Longevity Wines is a family-operated, boutique winery with wines that have been featured in television shows from Big Bang Theory to Big Little Lies. Winemaker Phil Long focuses on quality over quantity with a bin-to-bottle approach and wants everyone who visits their tasting room to be treated like family — and that includes your four-legged friend. Who knows, maybe your dog will make a canine cameo on the next episode of your favorite show!

    6. Mitchell Katz

    2915 S Vasco Rd, Livermore, CA 94550

I could tell you that the Mitchell Katz Winery is committed to producing single-vineyard wines that bring out the personality of each unique vineyard. But what I’d rather tell you is that Mitchell Katz’s tawny port is so good, that you might consider giving up desserts forever. Bring your leashed dog to watch you have a religious experience with fermented grape juice.

Sage Advice: Just like an unruly barking dog or unattentive pet owner, these faux pas can ruin a day of wine tasting. (So don’t be this guy or gal!)

    7. Page Mill Winery

    1960 S Livermore Ave, Livermore, CA 94550

In a rustic stone building framed by a trellis of flowers, Page Mill offers tastings of its sparkling, white, and red wines. This Livermore winery welcomes your pup with open arms, water bowls, and treats. It’s like a doggy day spa, but with the added bonus of you enjoying amazing wine selections. Win-win!

Sage Advice: If you want to take a bottle of wine (or 12) home with you, here’s what you need to know about bringing alcohol on a plane.

    8. Retzlaff Vineyards

    1356 S Livermore Ave, Livermore, CA 94550

Organic wines that actually taste good? Retzlaff Vineyards has cracked the code! Spread out on their lawn with your leashed companion and enjoy an afternoon of pretending you can taste the difference between pesticide-free and regular grapes. Your dog won’t know the difference, but he’ll appreciate the effort.

    9. Wood Family Vineyards

2407 Research Dr, Livermore, CA 94550

At many Livermore Valley wineries, producing great wines is a family affair. And that’s certainly the case at Wood Family Vineyards where matriarch Rhonda brings her silver lab, Sauvy (yes, it’s short for Sauvignon), to work almost every day. You can bring your leashed pup to meet the boss, but remember — barking is frowned upon in board meetings. And yes, there are Milkbones involved. It’s not nepotism if everyone gets doggie treats, right?

Lapping Up Dog Friendly Livermore Wineries

So there you have it — nine pawsitively wonderful Livermore wineries where your dog can enjoy a day of wine tasting with you. Remember to keep them leashed, bring water, and maybe pack some special doggy treats. After all, you wouldn’t want your furry sidekick to feel left out of the tasting experience!
